Welcome To Birmingham!

If you have ever visited Birmingham before, you will know just how much there is to do there. And there are so many ways to get there too – from the many trains coming into the city from all over the country, to its airport which flies in thousands of people all the time.

And if you are heading out of the city by plane, you might be surprised at how easy it is to reach many of the destinations in Europe. There are dozens of places that are hooked up to Birmingham via its airport, so you won’t be short of journeys to make if you want to head off on holiday anytime soon!

Places to go in Birmingham

As with all cities, Birmingham is famous for some landmarks and places to see, but there are many other great places to go that aren’t so well known too.

For example, most people know that Birmingham is the home of Cadbury’s chocolate. If you have a taste for the bars that come in the distinctive purple wrappers you won’t want to miss taking time out to visit Cadbury World. This is a visitor centre that allows you limited access into the actual factory where the chocolate is made – so you might just see a few of those famous bars getting ready for distribution!

Birmingham is also the home of the refurbished shopping centre the Bullring. There are hundreds of shops just waiting to be explored here, so be warned – you could end up spending a lot of money!

But if you prefer something more rustic, don’t worry. Head for Birmingham’s markets and grab a great bargain at the same time. These are open all but one day a week, so you won’t be short on time to explore.

Things you can get up to in Birmingham

The wonderfully named Custard Factory is a great place to go if you’d like a taste of Birmingham’s artistic side. Perhaps not surprisingly the Custard Factory was created initially by Alfred Bird – creator of Bird’s Custard. While the building is now used for a very different purpose, it is still much loved by everyone who visits to take a look at the art inside.

If you would like to finish off a day’s shopping by seeing a show, there are plenty of places to do it in Birmingham. One of the best is the Birmingham Hippodrome, which is constantly putting on shows to please its audiences. If you know you are going to visit the city, why not check up on availability in advance?

Fancy something to eat?

If you love a nice balti then you’ll love Birmingham. It is affectionately known as the home of the balti, and there are plenty of places in which you can enjoy one.

The so called Balti Triangle is home to dozens of balti restaurants, so you really are spoilt for choice when it comes to trying to find your way through the selection of mouth watering restaurants.

Elsewhere, restaurants such as Edmund’s, Simpson’s Restaurant and Turner’s are well known for their sensational menus packed with flavour. They really do have something for everyone.

And of course if it is just a light lunch you want, to give you some respite from a day out exploring all that Birmingham has to offer, there are plenty of other places you can visit too.

In conclusion

As you can see, Birmingham is a city that has plenty to offer. From the NEC on the outskirts, hosting concerts and exhibitions, to the network of canals and the many colourful boats that can be seen on them, everyone finds something they love to do here.

In fact, if you are planning on visiting the city for a day out, you should either make sure it will be a long one or choose somewhere to stay overnight so you can explore more. There are plenty of good and cheap hotels in the area, and they will enable you to enjoy even more of what Birmingham has to offer.

Make sure you visit the Gas Street Basin if you want to see what Birmingham’s canal system is like. This is one of the prettiest areas of the whole system in the city, and you can stop for a bite to eat in Brindleyplace while you watch the world go by.

What could be better than that? Birmingham always has plenty to offer, and you will never cease to be surprised by how relaxing it can be!
